I just got back from seeing The Young Victoria and can safely say that I was VERY amused! Most people who know me know that I have a thing for history and so I am very biased when I say that this was a great historical film. However I really think that, love of history aside, everyone would enjoy it.

Firstly, I have to give Miss Blunt a mention. This was her first leading role and she was just incredible, her and Rupert on screen together were just delicious. The film wasn’t sad at all but Emily very nearly had me crying with the effective way she portrayed the emotions poor Princess Victoria had to endure as a child. Her isolation in the first few months as Queen were also heartbreaking.

I have read reviews which praise the supporting cast and whilst I agree that Miranda Richardson was excellent I don’t see where the praise for the other lot comes from. Emily and Rupert were indeed the standout performances with Rupert being ridiculously handsome with his floppy Edward Cullen hair and costume. Paul Bettony (whom I normally love) as Lord Melborne annoyed me … every time he was onscreen I wanted Albert in his place.

My favorite part of the movie has to be the honeymoon period, although that only lasted 3 days, much to Albert’s annoyance :p I don’t want to give to much away because I know a certain person who is dying to see it, as I was. I will say though that the ending was rather abrupt. It was concluded nicely with some information about Victoria and Albert’s reign but it just ended quite enexpectedly. However the end scene, with Victoria and Albert walking into court in all their glory was very touching.

I will definitely think of Victoria in a new light now.
